Outfit of the Day: High Fashion Goth

 photo goth_zpsb69a2ef3.jpg
Angry Bunny Sweatshirt - McQ Alexander McQueen $255
Leather Shorts - $88
Vintage Hermes Choker Necklace - $7,500
Nail Nail Ring - Bloody Fabulous $8
Glasses - Karl Lagerfeld $228
Tights - ASOS $15
Bootie - Alaia $2,000

Who says goth can't be high fashion and glamorous? I think a lot of people have it misconstrued. Black and other dark colors provide the perfect backdrop to show off flashy accessories. I am all about mixing looks and styles together to create one that is a perfect combo of the two. I never like going too far one way, especially for a dramatic and dark look like goth. Goth, in particular, is such a fun look to do, but I think going too far to the dark side is a bit of a misrepresentation of myself and most other people. Throwing in the vintage Hermes choker and Karl Lagerfeld glasses keep with the theme of the outfit while also adding a bit of polished sophistication as well. To tone down the look even more, replace the the patent leather, sky high, platform booties with a sweet and feminine flat or a simple pair of Converse sneakers.

One Shirt, Three Looks

Look One

 photo 1IMGP0270_zps293a5c8f.jpg

My gorgeous gal pal Tayler, from Awakened Rose and Alien Girl is modeling this awesome white, boxy, crop top from H&M that I bought for only $5. If there is one thing I am always on the search for, it's a good white tee, shirt, or tank. It makes getting dressed so easy for me and it can be worn with anything. This shirt in particular is something I am so happy to have found. Not only is the short length super trendy, but the over-sized sleeves and embroidered texture make it a unique addition to my wardrobe. I couldn't decide on which look I wanted to shoot her in, so I decided to style her in all three. All three looks are perfect for keeping cool and looking effortlessly stylish on these hot summer days.

Trend of the Day: Fringe Benefits

 photo Fringe1_zpsfe2d34dc.jpg

Black maxi dress - Kate Moss for Topshop
Fringe crop top tee - Topshop
Black fringe shoulder bag - Miu Miu
Leather and wool- felt sandals - Marni
One piece swimsuit - Eres
Black suede crop top - Tamara Mellon
Wicker lace dress - Stella McCartney
Studded leather and snakeskin heels - Aquazurra

I think fringe first started becoming a big trend as the styles from the 70's started becoming more and more popular. However, now we are seeing fringe begin to take on more of the 1920's flapper girl style, as it is being used to create dressy and sexy pieces with a bit of flair. I love the versatility of this trend. You could wear fringe from morning to night, dressed up, dressed down or at the pool, and if you are really a fringe-aholic, 24/7. Personally, I love boho chic style and love the idea of incorporating a fringe sandal or handbag into any outfit. To me, fringe looks best when it is the center of attention in an outfit, but I think too much can be a problem as well, therefore I try to avoid wearing fringe on fringe, even if it is tempting. Also, I keep the rest of my outfit fairly simple, because I don't like having too many statement pieces clashing and overwhelming my look. No matter what look you are going for, this trend is all about having fun, so don't be afraid to try something new and go a bit out of your comfort zone. Spice up an ordinary white tee with a bold fringe statement necklace or patterned kimono. You can take glam to the next level by wearing a fringe dress with bold red lips, or by adding hanging fringe earrings to a little black dress.

The Little Things

 photo film_02_zpsdcfbaf49.jpg

No amount of money can offer peace of mind. The simple things are often the most luxurious and yet, almost always taken for granted. A day off from work, spent lounging in the sun and eating oranges with chili is a glorious afternoon in my opinion. I love being able to reflect on the blessings I have been given and anticipate the future, all while being content with this present moment. The spare hour or two to read a book, listen to music, or even just lay silently with my thoughts is a luxury not all are fortunate enough to have, or at least recognize. In a society where we are so focused on getting to the next destination, I try to find moments where I can be content with where I am. I need moments to reevaluate my life and my decisions to reassure myself that I am headed on the right path. I value days like this the most. I need time to get lost in something other than myself and my world, and all the problems I imagine it to have.

Hot Summer Shoe Trends

Chunky Platforms

 photo Chunkyplatforms_zps028ebeb0.jpg
As a trend from the 90's that was inspired from the 70's, it's a look most generations can identify with to some degree.  Chunky platform shoes can vary from cute and girly, to punk rock and edgy, yet either way these shoes make a big statement. When styling these types of shoes, either opt for short mini length bottoms, such as mini skirts or shorts, or loose fitting pants and maxi skirts. While this style is young, loud and dramatic, it is very practical, due to how comfortable they are to wear. The block heels and thick platform bottoms provide comfort and support for not only your heels, but also your toes. This is definitely a trend to consider incorporating into your style if you love wearing heels but hate the aches and pains and love a fun retro vibe.

Birkenstock Inspired and Nostalgic for Pre-K Sandals

 photo sandals_zps86e23826.jpg
I am not afraid to say it, I LOVE Birkenstock shoes! I often don't openly share my love for these sandals, because if I do, I often face a reaction similar to, "Eehhh, really? But, they are so ugly". First off, let me begin by saying that I am well aware of the fact that these shoes are not the cutest. No, I do not like these shoes because I think they are cute. To be entirely honest, it's not the look but idea and the lifestyle that these sandals represent to me. On my days off from work, I want to be able to relish in the fact that I have the freedom to be lazy and comfortable, yet I want to wear something more luxurious and comfortable than a pair of flip flops. I want to be able to simply slide my feet into some shoes and walk out the door with out a care in the world, and feel a bit like an Olsen twin. These sandals look great paired with anything from skinny jeans to maxi skirts; just keep it casual.

Next, these sandals that are reminiscent of the shoes you wore in preschool are a less edgy way to pull off the nostalgic 90's grunge look. I love the variety of colors these come in and the playfulness they will bring to any outfit. Also, try pairing white socks when wearing these sandals; it may be an effortless way to take the style of this shoe a step further.

Menswear Shoes

 photo mensshoes_zps4055d9ea.jpg
Androgyny  never seems to go out of style. Men's inspired dress shoes add style, sophistication and comfort to any outfit, and can be worn casually or professionally. My personal favorite way of seeing these shoes is dressed down with cuffed jeans and a simple black or white graphic tee.

I Don't Try Hard. I Just Am.

 photo _MG_9846_zpsba078687.jpg

Dark lips, faded t-shirts, mary-jane heels, and an attitude that says, "I don't try hard. I just am cool" define grunge style to me. It isn't about fitting in or standing out; it's simply about being and then being confident about doing so. It's difficult to pinpoint why myself and so many others have made this style a huge cultural phenomena the past few years. Maybe, it's because I, like so many others, was raised on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Eddie Vedder vocals. I, like so many others my age, tried weird things with my hair, wore clothes that were faded or didn't match, and desperately wanted to be Britney Spears(circa 1998 - 2001). We grew up with these images and they became apart of our childhood, so much so, that now we, as adults, still can't leave them behind.

In addition, I also think a great deal of the inspiration behind this type of style is due to a general attitude of acceptance of ourselves and one another. Almost everyone, at one point or another, has felt misunderstood and as though they don't belong, and no one should feel shame for not being like everyone else. I think the general focus for me, and many of my friends and peers has been to discover who we truly are and learn to love it. We embrace that which makes us, as well as others, unique and free-thinking individuals.

Favorite Trend: White Out

 photo white_zps5890bca1.jpg

When did this happen? All of a sudden I found myself wanting a white purse and a pair of white shoes, two things I promised myself years ago I would never own. I always thought they were tacky and only women with terrible dye jobs wore them, but something changed a few months ago and these previous fashion faux pas moved to the top of my wishlist. White has increasingly been becoming the "it" color for some time, especially now that the weather has been becoming a lot warmer; it's such a stylish way to help stay cool. While white has always been associated with classic and minimal style, it has seen a new attitude adjustment and is being redefined as edgy. Mesh sweaters, structured crop tops and chunky, platform shoes are making white the boldest and baddest color of them all. Also, don't be afraid to mix cream or off-white with white; you can often pair the two together without looking like you missed the mark, especially if you are going for a more relaxed and casual look.
