Spring is Finally Here!

What makes these first 60 days of Spring so special? Is it the way the sun begins to gently wake you in the morning? Is it the smell of fresh flowers and blossoms blooming in the air? Why does the beginning of this season always make me feel like I could walk on air? Music sounds better, colors are more vibrant, and the possibilities of what the next few months will bring seem endless. Each day brings a new wave of energy to my spirits that has not been felt in a long time.

The beginning of Spring and Fall are the best times of the year for me, because they are periods of subtle transition. The Fall is a period in which life is meant to mellow out; where we are supposed to recuperate and recover from the Summer's boundless energy. However, Spring is a celebration of life and life to come, and this is what makes it the most special season of all. More than ever, this is the time to take chances, to be spontaneous, and then see where the road takes you. This is the time of the year where everything is being reborn and re-energized and it is important to bask in its glory. Whether it be planting flowers, taking an unplanned day-trip to the beach, or just appreciating the warm embrace of the sun; allow yourself to take at least a few moments each day to celebrate this special time of the year.

Breaking the Rules

 photo 2014-03-15-21-33-43_zps0957676a.jpg
There comes a time when the rules will need to be broken. It's the moment when you stop listening to other people telling you what it is that you want and start listening to yourself. It's the moment when you say, "yes, that's nice but I want something better". We as human beings are naturally inclined to follow the pack and seek out acceptance, but there will come a time when the fabric of your being can no longer constrict to fit within the shapes carved out for you.

Being who you are, standing up for who you are, and not apologizing for it makes you a rebel in and of itself. The majority of everything we do, we do in such a way that makes everyone else happy: the way we walk, the way we fix our hair, the way we eat, the way we dress; but when do we decide that making everyone else happy and making ourselves happy is no longer the same thing? For what cause and reason do we stop, put our foot down and say "No, this is what I want, this is who I am, and this is what I am going to do"?  I am not saying to be senseless and break rules for the hell of it(unless that makes you happy); this isn't about throwing tantrums while reciting Wu Tang Clan lyrics. It's about standing up for yourself and doing what makes you happy even when everyone else disagrees. Following the path of self love is the most rebellious thing you could ever do.

The Luxury in Having a Lazy Day

Follow on Bloglovin photo Image61of1_zps6eb49b7c.jpg

Karl Lagerfeld is quoted as having said, "Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants". While I normally agree with his off-beat and unconventional sayings, I highly disagree with this one. Wear your sweatpants! Wear your over sized shirts! But whatever you do, don't feel sloppy. Brush your hair, color coordinate, match your socks and drink a glass of wine. Don't let a lazy day mess with your psyche; still be prepared to run into your neighbor's hot best friend when you decide to take out the trash. Why do you think pajama pants became a huge fashion trend for a while? People wanted to feel like they just rolled out of bed yet still be sophisticated and chic. Karl is undoubtedly the king of the fashion universe and one of my most favorite people to ever exist, but he needs to rethink what it means to lose control of one's life. Should silk pajamas be the only appropriate clothing item to relax in? The literal definition of luxury is, "something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary"; therefore being a cute blob of laziness is in itself the epitome of luxury.
Moral of the story: don't listen to the haters, girl. Eat your ice cream sandwich and bowl of Frootloops in bed and feel fabulous doing so.

A Beautiful Day at Venice Beach

Follow on Bloglovin
I was only given this one life to live inside of this body. I don't know if I believe in reincarnation, time travel or multiple realities; all that I can be certain of is the life I am living at this particular moment in time. I don't know what will happen tomorrow or the next day, and I can't be entirely certain I remember yesterday accurately either; all I have is the now. I have now to make the most of my life and enjoy the simple blessings that come along with it: the sun glaring through the tops of the trees, the excitement of hearing one my favorite songs play at a public place, or the luxury of taking a nap on the beach. All these small simple blessings remind me to take the time to live life a little more slowly.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt

This trip to Los Angeles was very much needed and I am so happy I was able to take some time off, even if it was only for a weekend. They say your twenties is the time to enjoy being young, yet I feel so torn between wanting to have fun and building a secure life for myself. It feels like I have been working non-stop for the past year and a half, and this trip was a huge eye opener for me. I need to take more time to be a little irresponsible and remove the weight of the world off my shoulders from time to time. I hope to have the luxury of posting new vacation pictures more often, and I hope you are able to enjoy these pictures from my most recent adventure to SoCal.

Inner Free-Spirited Hippie Child

Follow on Bloglovin
I am visiting Los Angeles this weekend and am having a great time shopping, dining and dancing. However, some pretty funny things have already occurred and they are reminding me to stay in the spirit of being worry and carefree even in the most trivial events of everyday life. I can't even begin to list the brain blubbers, silly accidents, and mental mishaps that occurred over the course of just my first day on vacation here in LA: I lost my keys, forgot my ID, took a bad detour,  spilled ice water all over myself; the list goes on. Despite all of these aggravating micro incidents that occurred due to some lack of sleep and several hours of driving, the one thing that didn't fail on me was my attitude. Everything was a 'hairflip', a 'silly mistake' and chance to laugh at the problematic moment presented and move forward onto something better.

While this outfit is not from my current LA vacation, it serves as a friendly reminder to enjoy my inner free-spirited hippie child and not let the little things ruin my life. This outfit is all about having fun and being carefree.
